Mokhtar Abou Basha earned a Bachelor of Agriculture Science from Alexandria University, graduating in 1976. He furthered his specialized knowledge by obtaining a Potato Production and Storage Diploma from Wageningen University in the Netherlands in 1978.

Under Mokhtar Abou Basha’s leadership, Maba began its operations as the exclusive agent for Agrico Holland, a global leader in potato seed production. He guided Maba’s evolution into a prominent agricultural consultant, importer, and exporter of seed and table potatoes, and a diverse range of other agricultural crops. Maba for Agriculture and Land Reclamation, a key component of the Maba group, has flourished under his direction, becoming a major producer of potatoes, fruits, and vegetables, with specialized nurseries for strawberries, mangoes, and grapes. Maba’s agricultural harvest is cultivated with meticulous care, adhering to international standards for supply to the European market.

Maba, under his leadership, has grown into a group of companies operating under the Maba name. MABA Farming and Land Reclamation owns several farms in various locations around the country that produce different kinds of agricultural crops, e.g. potatoes, peaches, nectarines, citrus, mango and strawberry nurseries, Dates, Grapes and Asparagus.

Maba farms and its packing station are GlobalGAP and GRASP certified, with designated areas allocated to organic agriculture for potatoes, citrus, and stone fruits. Maba is also ISO 22000 certified, incorporating HACCP regulations. The company prioritizes safe growing methods, environmental responsibility, and adherence to international health standards. Maba also operates one of the largest and most advanced Tissue Culture labs in Egypt, designed and implemented for plant multiplication and export. Maba ensures that all staff are health checked and insured and also tries to ensure that its workforce is an average of 50% females to assist in the welfare and upgrading in their living conditions.
